Richmond starts about 3 km east of the CBD. Mid-19th-century factories, among them Bryant & May and Pelaco, made it an industrial suburb, and its main shopping streets are Bridge Road, known for factory outlets, Swan Street and Victoria Street.1 The Melbourne Cricket Ground sits just over its border, and Richmond station is the main interchange for trains to the eastern and south-eastern suburbs.1
Cremorne covers just 0.7 km² and has been called Australia's Silicon Valley, with offices of Seek and Carsales among others.2 Its name comes from London's Cremorne Gardens, by way of a riverside amusement park that operated here from 1853 to 1863.2 In the side streets, socially awkward on Dover Street opens at 06:30 on weekdays, and Stillman Cafe on Burnley Street closes on Mondays.
Local tip: Most cafés in Richmond and Cremorne close by 15:00 or 16:00; on a Friday evening, Be The Duck on Burnley Street stays open until 20:30.

Victoria Street and Little Saigon
The stretch of Victoria Street between Hoddle and Burnley Streets is known as Little Saigon or Little Vietnam. Vietnamese migrants settled here after the Vietnam War, and their businesses grew along the street during the 1980s.4 Since 1994 a Lunar Festival for Tết, the Vietnamese New Year, has closed the street to traffic between Hoddle Street and Church Street.4 The Nylex Clock, on a silo in Cremorne and sung about in Paul Kelly's "Leaps and Bounds", is a local landmark.12
