Miraflores lies east of the center. In colonial and republican times it grew fruit and was a place for paceños to relax, known in Aymara as Putu-Putu; the architect Emilio Villanueva later planned it as a barrio jardín (garden suburb).1 Its landmarks are Avenida Busch, Plaza Villarroel, the Jardín Botánico and the Estadio Hernando Siles, opened on 16 January 1930 and enlarged in 1977.1
It is residential, with the medical, dental and pharmacy faculties of the Universidad Mayor de San Andrés and several hospitals.1 The cafés are on Avenida Busch, Avenida Argentina and around Plaza Uyuni, and several serve vegetarian or vegan plates.
Local tip: Take the Línea Blanca to Qhuirwa Uma, near the Busch monument, for Avenida Busch; Amanita Café Market opens there at 08:00 from Monday to Saturday.2

Miraflores got its own market in 1944, built to supply what was then a new zone, and the Mercado Haití followed later on the street of the same name.1 Excavations here have turned up ceramics and sculpture of the Tiwanaku culture.1
To the north, Plaza Villarroel and Avenida 15 de Abril mark the border with Villa Fátima; to the west, Avenida Tejada Sorzano separates Miraflores from Villa Lazareto, and Tienda Emily is on it.1 Blanquita is on Calle San Salvador, and La Cueva de Cuentacuentos is also in the neighborhood.
