Sucumbé, the night drink

Sucumbé is a hot alcoholic drink served in tall glasses: milk boiled with cinnamon and clove, frothed by whisking or with beaten egg white, then laced with singani. It belongs to street festivities such as San Juan in June, the folk-dance entradas (parades) and verbenas (street parties).4

Api is an evening drink too. Its smell hangs over bus terminals and the cold late afternoons of the altiplano, and in La Paz it sells in quantity at the Alasita fair.9

Sol y Luna, on Calle Murillo, serves from 09:00 to 01:00. On Sagárnaga, Café del Mundo is open until 22:00 every day by its own account, with a menu that runs from breakfast to dinner.5 Luna’s Restaurant Coffee Pub at number 289 keeps 08:00–22:00 with takeaway and toilets, and Café Restaurante Banais 07:00–22:00 with vegan dishes; both have Wi-Fi for a late email.

Sol y Luna is the one to know after 22:00, every night of the week. It opens at 09:00, so it also covers a slow breakfast, and it has Wi-Fi and vegan dishes on the menu.

El Prado, and getting home

Near the Prado, Aliño Café Resto Pub on Calle Colombia keeps 07:00–22:00 from Monday to Saturday and 15:00–21:00 on Sunday, and pours beer and cocktails as well as coffee.6 It takes cards, and its website advertises cultural events.6

The cable cars of Mi Teleférico stop at 22:30 from Monday to Saturday and at 21:00 on Sunday; in January 2026 a ride cost Bs 3, plus Bs 2 for each transfer.7 Most of the year’s rain falls between November and March, when summer downpours can cause mudslides; June and July are the driest months.8
