The 11e, also called Popincourt, runs from Place de la République to the Bastille and Place de la Nation, and its four quarters are Folie-Méricourt, Saint-Ambroise, Roquette and Sainte-Marguerite.1 It had 138,170 residents in 2023 and is one of the most densely populated districts of any European city, and its 25 métro stations are more than any other arrondissement has.1

Dense streets mean many cafés: the 11e and the Marais have more than any other part of Paris. Rue Saint-Maur has the most, followed by Boulevard Voltaire and Rue du Faubourg Saint-Antoine. Most are neighborhood bars that open early and close late, and specialty coffee is spread thin.

Local tip: Passager and COMETS both keep laptop-free tables, and Passager fills with brunch customers at weekends; to work, go on a weekday and sit where laptops are allowed.4
