A café connection matters in Beirut because power at home is short. Électricité du Liban supplied about four hours a day in July 2026, down from seven to nine at the end of February, and households fill the gap with generators, batteries or solar panels.1 In June 2026 the ministry's indicative generator price was LL 41,973 per kWh, before fixed charges.1
Cafés took up the slack when the crisis began, and they were among the few businesses to largely escape the wider economic collapse. In 2022 AFP described Beirut's cafés as substitute workplaces where the music is hushed and the two things patrons care about most are good lighting and stable Wi-Fi.2 Hamra has the most cafés with Wi-Fi, ahead of Mar Mikhael and Achrafieh.
Local tip: Ask for the Wi-Fi password when you order and pick a seat near a socket; at Barzakh in 2022, charger cables ran across the floor.2
Where these cafés are: Hamra & Ras Beirut (7), Mar Mikhael (4), Achrafieh (2), Raouché & Manara (1), Jnah & Ramlet el-Baida (1), Gemmayzeh (1), Mazraa & Basta (1).

Barzakh (برزخ) on Cairo Street, a café inside a bookshop and library, has Wi-Fi daily 09:00–22:30. On AFP's 2022 visit its tables were crowded with notebooks and laptops, and charger cables trailed across the floor.2 ملتقى السفير (Multaqa As-Safir), in the old building of the As-Safir newspaper on Amin Mneimneh Street, has Wi-Fi Monday to Saturday until midnight.3
برجيس, on Hamra Street itself, and Café Adam at No. 57 Dar el-Mreisseh Street also have Wi-Fi. Trop Cool Cafe keeps working hours, Monday to Saturday 08:00–18:00, with air conditioning and a terrace.
In the west of the city, some Wi-Fi cafés never close. Bliss Lounge, by AUB, takes cards and is air-conditioned; Brimm on Madame Curie Street has outdoor seats; and cafe lucy at No. 123 Raouché Street, near the corniche, has outdoor seats and air conditioning.
Farther south, cozy cafe in Jnah has Wi-Fi from 08:00 to midnight and tables outside, and Yasmine Mansour's café in Mazraa has Wi-Fi too.
Aaliya's Books on Rue Gouraud is a bookshop with a café and bar, and a 2023 review judged its Wi-Fi good enough for remote workers to put in a full shift on their laptops before the evening events.4 In 2022 its manager said weekdays there felt like a co-working space.2 It is smoke-free and has outdoor seats.
In Mar Mikhael, Sole Insight pairs expertly brewed coffee with philosophy, literature and art, and Caffeine Coffee Beirut has more than 40 coffee drinks and serves until 01:00.5 Living Room Beirut on Ibrahim Pasha Street, open until 23:00, and Caffe Positano on Armenia Street have Wi-Fi as well.
Keif on Youssef Karam Street has Wi-Fi until 02:00, and Coconix on Rue 51 adds vegan dishes and brunch.
The draw of a café connection goes back to the cost of power at home. In 2022 generators were the only way to keep devices charged and online through the cuts, and many Lebanese could not afford them as the pound lost more than 90% of its black-market value.2
