Cusco's café evenings are short. Most late cafés close at 22:00, and only a handful stay open later: Gabriel 480 on Espaderos, JC'café on Meloq, La Francesa on Calle Q'era and D'wasi Cafe on Calle Heladeros serve until 23:00, and Cafe Ayllu on Almagro until 22:30.
The cold sets the mood. From April to September, the dry winter brings abundant sunshine by day and occasional frost at night.1 A hot drink indoors is a reasonable way to spend the hour between dinner and bed.
Local tip: Bring a warm layer even after a hot afternoon: July nights average about 1 °C at the airport station, against highs near 21 °C.1
Where these cafés are: Centro Histórico (7), Wanchaq & Avenida de la Cultura (5), San Blas (1), San Pedro & Santa Ana (1), San Sebastián & San Jerónimo (1).

How cold Cusco gets after dark
At the airport weather station, the average July low is 1.2 °C and the average high 20.6 °C, so a sunny afternoon can turn into a near-freezing night within a few hours. The record low for July there is −7.0 °C.1
Forecasts often go below zero in the coldest weeks. On July 21, 2025, SENAMHI's forecast reported by Infobae gave minimums of −2 °C for Cusco city and Anta.2 From October to March the nights are milder and the rain heavier.1
Late cafés around the Plaza de Armas
Nearly half the late openers are in the Centro Histórico, within a few minutes of the Plaza de Armas. Cafe Ayllu at Almagro 137 has been open for more than 40 years and hangs work by Andean artists on its walls.3 It opens at 06:30 and closes at 22:30 Monday to Saturday, and at 13:00 on Sunday.
Cappucino Cafe, on the second floor above Plaza Regocijo, has balcony seating that looks toward the cathedral.3 It is open daily 07:30–22:00, and Organika Cafe and Bakery, on the same plaza, 07:00–22:00.
Some cafés start late. La Francesa opens at 14:30, and La Escencia at Limacpampa Chico 400 opens at 16:00 and closes at 22:00, Monday to Saturday.
Wanchaq, San Blas and the outer districts
Wanchaq, southeast of the center, has the next-largest group. Agusto's Coffee opens Monday to Saturday 10:00–22:00, Dulce Leonardo on Avenida Rafael Aguilar Páez 08:00–22:00, and the pastry shop DULCEARTE at Alfredo Yepez Miranda E2 only from 15:00 to 22:00. Povea at Lirios L-10 opens at 07:00 every day and closes at 22:00, or 21:00 on Sunday.
Farther east, Dufrapé in San Sebastián is open daily 10:00–22:00. In San Blas, Dr. Beer & Miss Potato at Tandapata 101 serves until 22:00 Monday to Saturday.
What to drink on a cold night
Coffee is not the only option after dark. Emoliente, a hot infusion of roasted barley and medicinal plants, is drunk mostly in winter to fight the cold and sold from licensed carts in Peru's main cities.4 Muña mate, an infusion of muña (an Andean mint), is served as a digestive and is easiest to find in places with a naturopathic bent.4
The center is livelier and louder at night than the hill neighborhoods; one guide for long-stay visitors describes the Plaza de Armas area as the heart of the city's restaurants and nightlife, and warns of crowds and noise.5
