Teusaquillo is Bogotá's 13th locality, a flat stretch northwest of downtown bounded by Avenida Caracas, Calle 63, Avenida El Dorado and Carrera 68.1 Its name comes from the Muisca Teusacá, the resting place of the zipa (the Muisca ruler). The neighborhoods urbanized in the 1920s, and their English-style houses made the area one of the most fashionable in the city; Jorge Eliécer Gaitán lived here.1

It also holds the Universidad Nacional campus, built from 1937 to 1945, El Campín stadium and Simón Bolívar park.1 In La Soledad, around the Park Way, most residents are students, artists, musicians and journalists, and theaters, restaurants and bars have followed them.2

Local tip: Walk the Park Way from Calle 45 south toward Calle 36, then cut five blocks east to Carrera 19 for the café at Teatro La Maldita Vanidad before an evening show.
