Bangsar takes its name from a rubber estate: the names of its two owners, Bunge and Grisar, were run together into Bunge-Grisar, then Bangsar Estate. Eng Lian Enterprise developed Bangsar Baru in 1974, and its Telawi streets, sometimes called "the strip", have been compared to Holland Village in Singapore.1
It is a residential district, popular with expatriates, with notable restaurants, malls and bars.2 The cafés follow three streets: Jalan Kemuja, with Asylum Coffeehouse, Better Days and Lisette's Café & Bakery; Lorong Maarof, with Goodmem and Piccoli Lotti; and the numbered Jalan Telawi roads.
Local tip: Take bus 822 or T850 from Bangsar LRT rather than walking the 1.5 km to Bangsar Baru in the midday heat, and skip APW on Mondays, when most of its cafés are closed.

Getting to Bangsar Baru
Bangsar LRT station, on the Kelana Jaya Line, is on Jalan Bangsar, not in Bangsar Baru: the shops and restaurants are about 1.5 km northeast of it. From the station, RapidKL bus 822 or T850 runs to Bangsar Baru.2 By car, Bangsar is about five minutes from KL Sentral, and traffic to Mid Valley Megamall passes through it.1
Bangsar Village II, at 1 Jalan Telawi 3, opens 08:30–22:00 and is linked to the original Bangsar Village by a covered bridge. Bangsar Shopping Centre, on Jalan Maarof, adds more cafés and restaurants under one roof.2
Jalan Kemuja, Lorong Maarof and the Telawi streets
Jalan Kemuja rivals Jalan Telawi 3 for the most cafés in Bangsar. Better Days is at no. 2, Lisette's Café & Bakery at no. 8, open daily 08:00–20:00, and Asylum Coffeehouse at no. 28. Alta Pizza is on the same street.3
On Lorong Maarof, Piccoli Lotti is at no. 78 and Goodmem at no. 96, a short walk from the Ti-Ratana Buddhist Society at no. 17.1 In the Telawi grid, Fittie Sense is at 23A Jalan Telawi 3 and Three Guys at 28-1 Jalan Telawi 5, open daily 10:30–21:30. Meet Joe serves until 23:00 every day, the latest coffee in the district.
APW and Pulp on Jalan Riong
APW, run by Art Printing Works Sdn Bhd, presents itself as a contemporary campus of shops, event spaces and offices. It opens daily 08:00–00:00, but most of its food and drink outlets close on Mondays.4 103 Coffee, a Sri Petaling roaster, has an outpost there.3
Pulp by Papa Palheta, at 29-01 Jalan Riong, is a café with a coffee retail and cupping section.5 Time Out still listed it in 2025 as a coffee retailer and cupping center as well as a café.6 It opens at 07:30 on weekdays and runs until 22:00, and until 23:00 at weekends.
Kopenhagen and Transparent Coffee
Kopenhagen Coffee Kapas, on Jalan Kapas, is one of three Kopenhagen cafés and takes its look from Scandinavia. It sources beans from Colombia and Ethiopia, serves smørrebrød (open sandwiches) and has a view of the city skyline.6 It opens daily 08:00–16:00, with outdoor seating, so it suits breakfast rather than an afternoon.
Transparent Coffee, also in Bangsar, buys its beans directly from farmers and is known for its iced latte and sourdough sandwiches.6
