Jalan Bukit Bintang takes its name from a hill about 50 meters high beside Kampung Dollah, a Malay village that no longer exists. By 1945 it was the only street in the city with entertainment, shops and hawker food, and in the late 1980s YTL Corporation built the retail strip branded Bintang Walk.1 Today it is the middle of the Golden Triangle, Kuala Lumpur's main shopping and nightlife district.2

For coffee, the streets behind the malls matter more than the malls. Time Out's 2024 list of the city's best cafés includes VCR on Jalan Galloway, and its 2025 coffee list adds Feeka Coffee Roasters on Jalan Mesui.45 Bukit Bintang also has the widest choice of cafés open until 22:00 or later, from Feeka to OGA Tea & Dining.

Local tip: Walk to KLCC through the air-conditioned bridge from Pavilion (06:00–23:00) rather than along the road, and end the evening at Feeka on Jalan Mesui, open until 23:00.
