Arequipa's fixed internet is moving to fiber. Fiber connections in the region grew 38.87% during 2025, the third-largest rise in Peru after Huánuco and Cusco, and Claro held the largest share of the regional market, 28.88%, according to figures from the regulator OSIPTEL.1

Most of the Wi-Fi cafés are in the Centro Histórico, along Calle Santa Catalina and Calle Jerusalén, with the two roasters Kafi Wasi and OSO Café a few blocks away. The rest are close by: in San Lázaro around Campo Redondo, in Yanahuara and in Vallecito. Hours run from a 07:00 start to 22:00, and Sunday is the day to check before you go.

Local tip: Plan Sundays separately: Kafi Wasi, Mi Kcao, Eco Brunch and Ristretto are closed, while Haykuy love opens at 07:30 and OSO Café from 09:00 to 16:00.

Working days in the Centro

Haykuy love, at Calle Santa Catalina 500, keeps the longest hours: 07:00–22:00 from Monday to Saturday and 07:30–21:00 on Sunday. La Petite Française, at No. 413, opens at 07:00 on weekdays and 08:00 at weekends, closes at 20:00 and is smoke-free. Banawa Juice Bar, at No. 211, opens 08:00–21:00 except on Sunday, when it runs 09:00–18:00.

On Calle Jerusalén, Entre Libros y Café (Between Books and Coffee) at No. 307 opens daily 09:30–21:00 and Novoandino at No. 306-c daily 08:00–20:00. Cafe Vino Valenzuela, at General Morán 114, is open every day from 08:00 to 21:00. Eco Brunch, on Simón Bolívar, closes at 16:00.

The roasters and the rooftop

Kafi Wasi, at Francisco Bolognesi 216, and OSO Café, at Calle San Francisco 217, both open 08:30–21:30 from Monday to Saturday; only OSO opens on Sunday, 09:00–16:00. A 2025 guide described OSO as a place to work or linger for hours, serving cappuccino and a coffee gin and tonic.2 Kafi Wasi has outdoor tables.

Mi Kcao chocolates y cafe rooftop, at Calle Ugarte 314, opens 09:00–21:00 from Monday to Saturday and serves vegan dishes.

San Lázaro, Yanahuara and Vallecito

In San Lázaro, Ristretto coffee house at Campo Redondo 100-B opens 08:00–20:00 from Monday to Saturday. Huayruro Peruvian Coffee Shop, at Puente Grau 100, opens every day 08:30–20:00, is smoke-free and has vegan food. Kaffeehaus Tostaduría y Cafetería, a roaster's café, is at Mariano Melgar 117.

Le Petit Café, in Yanahuara, opens daily 10:00–21:00, the latest start but a long evening. Palacios Coffee is at Lima 201 in Vallecito.

What internet costs, and when the power goes

As of October 2026, unlimited home broadband of 60 Mbps or more cost about S/ 80 a month in Arequipa, within a range of S/ 60–100, and a mobile plan with calls and at least 10 GB of data cost about S/ 35, from S/ 20 to S/ 40, according to Numbeo.3

SEAL, the regional electricity company, announces scheduled cuts in advance. On Sunday 14 June 2026, for example, parts of the Campiña Paisajista area of Cercado lost power from 06:00 to 13:00 for work on medium-voltage lines.4 To see whether a notice affects you, look for the subestación (substation) number printed at the top of the electricity bill; SEAL's line, 054-381388, answers on weekdays 07:30–20:00 and Saturdays 08:00–13:00.4

Dress for the hour. Arequipa gets about 3,333 hours of sunshine a year, but in June and July temperatures fall to about 6 °C.5
