Bonfim is the parish east of the Baixa: 3.05 km² with 22,978 residents at the 2021 census, down from 42,105 in 1960. Its boundaries date from a 1956 decree, and it was an industrial parish until most of its factories closed.1
Time Out ranked Bonfim 30th among the world's 38 coolest neighborhoods in 2024, describing streets where old grocers, tailors and bakeries share space with newcomers.2 Coffee splits the same way: confeitarias on the big avenues, and specialty roasters on two side streets, Rua do Morgado de Mateus and Rua do Heroísmo.3
Local tip: Combi and A Certain Café both close at 17:00. For coffee after that, Café Asa de Mosca on Rua do Duque da Terceira serves until 23:00 on weekdays.

Two metro stations serve the parish. Campo 24 de Agosto, beside the square of that name and one stop east of Bolhão, opened in June 2004 and is served by lines A, B, C, E and F; Heroísmo is the next stop east.4
The parish's landmarks include the Igreja Matriz do Bonfim, the Biblioteca Pública Municipal do Porto, the Museu Militar and the Dona Maria Pia railway bridge over the Douro.1
Combi began in 2014, when the brothers Gonçalo and Francisco Cardoso started serving coffee from a restored 1975 Mercedes van. They roasted in an abandoned garage on Rua do Morgado de Mateus and turned it into the café in 2017.35 It is at number 29, open daily 09:00–17:00, and its signature drink is the mazagran, espresso with lemon and soda over ice. A second Combi shop houses its Joper BR5 roaster.3
At number 107, A Certain Café, opened by the artist Matias Romano and the jewelry designer Agustina Fortunato, serves only filter coffee, with beans from von&vonnie and Spain's Hola. Its one milk drink, the Foamy, is filter coffee topped with steamed milk.3 It closes on Tuesdays and reopens on Friday and Saturday evenings, 19:00–23:00.
At 10 Rua do Heroísmo, Morgan von Mantripp and Yvonne Spresny roast on site at von&vonnie, with a small bakery in the room and a sticker that marks coffees from women producers; eight coffees were on offer when Sprudge visited.3 Further along the street, Padaria Molete at 207 bakes from 07:00 on weekdays, and Café Roma at 100 is open daily 07:00–00:00.
Mesa 325, at 325 Avenida de Camilo, brews single-origin beans from Senzu, a Porto roaster.5 It opens weekdays 08:30–18:00 and Saturdays until 14:00.
Bonfim has more late cafés than the old center. Café Asa de Mosca, at 377 Rua do Duque da Terceira, serves weekdays 08:00–23:00, and Cafetaria Bem Bom 3 stays open until midnight, Monday to Saturday.
On Avenida de Rodrigues de Freitas, Confeitaria Chicana at 36 opens daily at 07:00. Confeitaria Labareda, at 662 Avenida de Fernão de Magalhães, runs until 21:30 Monday to Saturday. Time Out recommends June for a visit, when the São João festivities peak on 24 June.2
