Queen Street West was the home of the city's punk and music scene in the 1980s; gentrification, chain stores and condos followed after CityTV moved to 299 Queen Street West.1 Trinity Bellwoods Park fills 15.4 hectares between Queen Street and Dundas Street, with Crawford Street on its western side.2
Beyond the park, West Queen West is known as the Art and Design District, with galleries, bars and the Drake and Gladstone hotels, and the stretch toward Roncesvalles is also called Queer West.1 Ossington Avenue meets Queen from the north, and its southern end is known as the Ossington Strip.3 Three of the city's coffee chains have cafés on it within a few blocks.
Local tip: For coffee in Trinity Bellwoods, Found Coffee Bellwoods and Two Penny Café are on Shaw Street and Morning Parade on Crawford Street; enter by the stone gates on Queen Street at Strachan Avenue, the last piece of the old Trinity College.2

Ossington's south end mixed shops and houses from the 1840s and later turned to auto repair and storage. Rising Queen Street rents pushed bars, restaurants and shops onto it from around 2007, and the city limited new licenses of the same kind in 2009, lifting the rule in 2010.3
Pilot Coffee Roasters, founded in 2009 as Te Aro Coffee Roasters, moved a block south on Ossington into a shop with a Modbar espresso bar, Sprudge reported in 2019.4 It is at 117 Ossington Avenue, near San Coffee Room at 135 and Sam James at 141, one of the four Sam James bars in the city, open daily 08:00–16:00.5 Jimmy's Coffee is at 15 Ossington, by Queen.
Bishop John Strachan bought the land in 1851 for Trinity College, which opened to students in 1852 and moved downtown in 1925. The stone gates at the Queen Street entrance, on Strachan Avenue, are the only part left; the iron gates are replicas.2 The park's white squirrels have their own place in city folklore.2
Cafés surround it. Found Coffee Bellwoods is at 189 Shaw Street, Two Penny Café at 180 Shaw (daily 09:00–15:30) and Morning Parade Coffee Bar at 256 Crawford Street. White Squirrel Coffee Shop at 907 Queen Street West opens at 07:30 on weekdays. On the Dundas side are Hamers Coffee at 870, Ella's Uncle at 916 and Bellwoods Coffee + Gelato at 1006 Dundas Street West.
The Drake Café is at 1150 Queen Street West. Further west, Highly Likely at 1189 Queen opens 07:00–16:00 on weekdays, Bom Dia at 1205 opens at 07:00 on weekdays and closes at 19:00, and Cafe GiGi at 1186 serves brunch daily 08:00–17:00. Fix is at 80 Gladstone Avenue.
East of the park, nearer downtown, HotBlack Coffee at 245 Queen Street West opens at 07:00 on weekdays and stays open until 19:00 every day, and Dark Horse Espresso Bar at 215 John Street opens at 07:00 on weekdays. Thor Espresso at 180 John Street opens only Monday to Friday, 08:00–15:00.

The 501 Queen streetcar, one of the TTC's busiest and longest routes, runs the length of Queen Street through Queen West and Trinity Bellwoods, and becomes the 301 Queen overnight. There is no subway under Queen Street; a line was proposed in the 1940s but never built, and the Ontario Line is planned to run beneath it.
