What goes on a desayuno chapín
The plate varies in detail more than in substance. Eggs may come huevos estrellados a la ranchera, cooked in the pan with tomato and onion and served with beans and cream, and the drink may be orange juice, a soft drink, chocolate or a traditional Guatemalan coffee.3
The sweet side comes from the panadería. Champurradas are crisp, cookie-like pan dulce made for dunking in coffee or chocolate, and shecas, from the west of the country, are a rough sweet bread flavored with anise and cinnamon and sweetened with panela and honey.4
What breakfast costs in 2026
As of October 2026, El Chapín, the traditional breakfast at Restaurante Típico Los 3 Reyes in Antigua, costs Q55 on its Uber Eats menu, and a café guatemalteco at Café Barista Q22; delivery menus can run above what you pay at the table.5
Numbeo's October 2026 figures put a meal at an inexpensive restaurant in Antigua at Q30–100, around Q52 on average, and a regular cappuccino at Q20–38.6
At a sit-down breakfast the bill may add a 10% propina sugerida. It is optional, and a 2017 Prensa Libre report found it was often pooled among the staff rather than paid to your server.7
