Imaizumi (今泉) and Kego (警固) sit just south and southwest of Tenjin. Fukuoka's official tourist guide lists them with Daimyō as the neighborhoods for coffee shops, boutiques and small restaurants.1 Imaizumi takes its name from a former pond, Imaizumi-ike. The original settlement stood a little further north and was moved when the castle town was laid out in the Keichō era.2

Kego covers 32.48 ha about 1 km southwest of Tenjin. Shops and offices line Kokutai-dōri (Route 202), while the south, especially 3-chōme, is mostly housing; its population grew from 4,045 in 2001 to 5,112 by June 2025.3 Its present addresses date from 1967, when names such as Kego-honmachi and Higashi-Kego-machi were merged.3 Imaizumi 1- and 2-chōme had 4,325 residents in February 2023.2 Schools, among them Kego Elementary and Chikushi Jogakuen, give Kego's side streets an educational character.3

Local tip: For coffee after dinner south of Tenjin, Manu Coffee's Daimyō shop at Daimyō 1-1-3 stays open until midnight every day.6

Getting to Imaizumi and Kego

Tenjin-Minami Station on the Nanakuma Line, at Watanabe-dōri 5-chōme, is Imaizumi's subway stop. The district's northern edge is big-box Tenjin, with Bic Camera's Tenjin No.1 building and Don Quijote's Fukuoka Tenjin main store, while Imaizumi Park sits in the lanes behind them.2 Kego Park, with Kego Shrine, lies just west of Nishitetsu Fukuoka (Tenjin) Station, with Daimyō on its far side.4

Manu Coffee on the Daimyō edge

Kyushu Walker has called Manu Coffee a pioneer of specialty coffee in Fukuoka.5 It opened its first bar in Haruyoshi in 2003 and a second in Daimyō.5 That Daimyō shop, on the ground floor of the Ishii Building at Daimyō 1-1-3, sits on the boundary with this area and opens 09:00–24:00 every day.6 By 2017 Manu had four shops, among them a counter inside the Yanagibashi Rengō Ichiba market, opened in 2013.5 Its current list adds the Kujira roastery café in Shirogane.6

Café Bimi, now in Akasaka, also started out in Imaizumi: Morimitsu Muneo and his wife Mitsuko opened it here in 1977 and moved it to the edge of Maizuru Park about 30 years later.7

Where the cafés cluster

Imaizumi 1-chōme has the tightest knot. Kurumi Cafe is at 1-18-25 and whole note cafe at 1-17-16, with Mocha Java Cafe Parkside (モカジャバカフェ パークサイド) a block away. Nooice, with brunch and outdoor tables, and Green Bean to Bar Chocolate, which also has seats outside, are nearby. Imaizumi Kōji Hiyoribi (今泉小路 日和日) is at 2-4-6, and Le Breton (ルブルトン) a short walk away.

Kego has fewer cafés and more space. Ron Herman is at Kego 1-15-43, and Plant-based cafe NICE, a vegan kitchen, at 3-13-35 in the residential south.

Lunch hours and late tables

This is a lunch-and-dinner neighborhood more than a breakfast one, and Manu Coffee is the early start at 09:00. Hiyoribi splits its day, serving 11:00–15:00 and again 18:00–23:55 from Tuesday to Saturday, lunch only on Sunday, and closing on Mondays. Le Breton is open 11:00–23:00 every day.
