Vegetarisch (vegetarian) and vegan dishes are easy to find in Utrecht. ProVeg International, a group that campaigns for plant-based food, called the city "extremely vegan-friendly" in August 2025, with options across town and some fully plant-based places.2
The city government signed the Plant Based Treaty on 4 June 2026, joining Amsterdam, Groningen, Nijmegen, Haarlem and others; its pledges include more plant-based food in the catering at several municipal offices and less food waste.1 Among cafés, the Binnenstad has the widest choice of vegan options, followed by the museum quarter.
Local tip: Order Kluts's pandan coconut cake and take it to the terrace, which faces the Domkerk; the bakery opens daily at 10:00.23
Where these cafés are: Binnenstad (11), Museumkwartier (3), Oost (2), Zuid (2), Pijlsweerd & Ondiep (2), Science Park & Rijnsweerd (1), Zuilen (1), Overvecht (1).

Kluts, at Achter de Dom 6, began in 2019, when its owners bought Carla's Conditorie, a Scandinavian lunchroom behind the Dom. They made it fully vegan and renamed it in July 2022.3 Everything is baked daily in the kitchen at the back with spelt flour only, so it is free of lactose and eggs; the coffee comes from Bocca, and the terrace looks onto the Domkerk.3
ProVeg singles out its apple crumble, chocolate brownies and pandan coconut cake.2 Kluts opens every day, 10:00–17:00.
Plant milk is where prices differ. Café Elize charged €0.50 extra for oat milk on its March 2026 menu, and its matcha latte came with oat milk and honey for €5.25.5 Cupp's Kanaalweg menu, read in October 2026, adds coconut milk or Oatly at no charge.6
Tijm, on the Donkere Gaard, lists a Cococcino, a cappuccino made with coconut milk, at €3.90 or €4.90, the same as its regular cappuccino on the June 2026 menu.7
Koffie Leute, at Westerkade 30 near Utrecht Vaartsche Rijn station, serves breakfast all day and says almost all of its lunch is vegan too, marked (v) on the menu. It bakes all its own pastry and buys local and organic produce where it can.4 It opens weekdays 08:00–17:00 and weekends from 10:00.
Cupp is not fully vegetarian or vegan, but ProVeg praises its plant-based choices: dairy-free pastries, a kimchi toastie with vegan cheese and a hummus bowl with falafel and beet sauce.2 Its Kanaalweg menu points guests who want a plant-based breakfast to a vegan breakfast board.6
In the Binnenstad, Lebowski is on the Domplein at number 17, Hop & Stork at Lijnmarkt 1 and Life's a Peach at Hardebollenstraat 9, open from Tuesday to Sunday. The Village Coffee & Music and De Ontdekking are both on the Voorstraat, at 46 and 110, and Bakkerswinkel Utrecht serves daily 09:00–17:00 at Wittevrouwenstraat 2.
The museum quarter has Museumcafé Centraal at Nicolaaskerkhof 10 and the nijntje museumcafé, which opened when the Miffy museum reopened in June 2023 at nearly twice its former size.8 Zizo, at Oudegracht 281, opens from 10:00 Monday to Saturday.
Further out, Momenti is at Nachtegaalstraat 29 and Café Elize bij 't Spoor at Wagenstraat 50 in Oost. North of the center, Dagger Coffee on the Zijdebalenstraat and DUBBEL / DWARS on the Weerdsingel have vegan choices too.

It bakes with spelt flour only, serves coffee from Bocca and opens daily from 10:00 to 17:00, with a terrace facing the Domkerk.
Some do and some don't. In Utrecht, Café Elize charged €0.50 extra for oat milk on its March 2026 menu, while Cupp's Kanaalweg menu offered coconut milk or Oatly at no charge in October 2026. Tijm charged the same for its coconut-milk Cococcino as for a regular cappuccino: €3.90 or €4.90.
