Wi-Fi is easy to find in Utrecht cafés; a welcome for laptops is not. DutchNews noted in 2023 that "No laptops" signs had spread through Dutch cafés over several years, and that some cafés switched off their wireless or kept the password to themselves.1 Owners point to guests who hold a table for hours on a single coffee.1
The Binnenstad and Zuid are level for cafés with Wi-Fi, ahead of Oost and the canal streets north of the center. Most of them keep office hours at best, and several close at 16:00.
Local tip: Ask at the counter before you open a laptop: Koffie & Ik charges €2.50 an hour per laptop, Cupp asks you to check its policy, and Kaffeetaria welcomes laptops outright.234

Policies range from open to closed. Cupp's Kanaalweg menu tells laptop users to ask about its laptop policy.4 Café Elize, which has Wi-Fi at its Wagenstraat branch, prints "Sorry, geen laptops toegestaan" (sorry, no laptops allowed) on its March 2026 menu.8 Café Keet on the Kanaalweg prints its network name and password on the drinks menu.5
In the Binnenstad, Darras at Bakkerstraat 5 stays open until 19:00 on weekdays and 20:00 at weekends, the latest closing among the Wi-Fi cafés on most days. For a long day, the city library in the former main post office on the Neude has meeting and work spaces on its first floor and a whole floor of study places. The post office opened in August 1924, and the library moved in during May 2020.6 Meneer Potter, the café in its central hall, opens at 10:00 and stays open until 21:00, or 23:00 from Thursday to Saturday.

The Table on the Croeselaan is open only on Wednesday and Thursday mornings and on Friday from 12:00 to 15:00. For the evening, Café Elize bij 't Spoor stays open until 20:00 on Fridays and Saturdays, but that is the branch where laptops stay in the bag.
