Jesús María and Lince sit between the Centro and San Isidro. Jesús María was formally created on 17 December 1963, when President Fernando Belaúnde Terry ratified the law, and had 83,905 residents in 2022 on 4.57 km².1 Lince, about 4 km south of the historic center, is the smallest district in Lima by area, at 3.03 km², and was carved out of San Isidro and Miraflores in 1936.2
For coffee these are neighborhood districts: a pastelería (pastry shop), a fuente de soda (soda-fountain diner) or a corner café rather than a destination roaster. Even so, two Jesús María cafés made the 2025 South American edition of The World's 100 Best Coffee Shops.3 Jesús María's cafés gather west and south of Campo de Marte, and Lince's along Avenida Arenales.
Local tip: For a late coffee here, Piero's Pastelería Fina on Avenida Arenales serves until 22:30 Monday to Saturday; on Sunday, Pausa Café on Horacio Urteaga opens at 10:00.

Campo de Marte and San Felipe
Campo de Marte, at about 68,850 m², is Jesús María's green lung, laid out where the Santa Beatriz Hippodrome ran races from 1903 to 1938.4 The Great Military Parade passes here every 29 July, the day after Independence Day, watched from the old racetrack stands.4
When racing moved to the San Felipe estate farther south, that track in turn gave way to Residencial San Felipe, a housing project commissioned by Belaúnde that combined dense housing with green space, shops, banks and schools.41
Café streets in Jesús María
The cafés closest to Campo de Marte are a few blocks away. La Panera is on Avenida Cuba, Café Express at Avenida General Santa Cruz 315, open Monday to Saturday 09:00–19:00, and Pausa Café at Avenida Horacio Urteaga 1226, which has Wi-Fi and opens daily 10:00–22:00. Cafeteria Viena is at Avenida República Dominicana 269 and L'bella on Avenida José María Plaza.
On Horacio Urteaga, at number 535, the Sérvulo Gutiérrez Cultural Centre houses the district's art gallery and library.1 In the south of Jesús María, El Rincón de Don Miguelo opens Monday to Saturday 10:00–18:00, and Cónchale is on Avenida General César Canevaro.
Lince and Avenida Arenales
Avenida Arenales divides Lince in two; the west side is still called Lobatón, after one of the two haciendas whose land became the district.5 The building of Avenida Arequipa in 1921 drove its growth.5 The Museum of Natural History is at Arenales 1256.1
Arenales and Avenida Ignacio Merino have more cafés than any other streets in the two districts. Piero's Pastelería Fina, at Arenales 2001, opens Monday to Saturday 07:30–22:30, the longest hours here, and Fuente de Soda Q'Tal Sabor and Agusto's Coffee are on the same avenue.
Getting there and Salaverry
Metropolitano buses serve Lince at Canadá and Javier Prado stations.2 The district's main square is Parque Pedro Ruiz Gallo, and Parque Mariscal Ramón Castilla is its large recreational park.2
Avenida General Salaverry, opened in the 1940s, became Jesús María's spine: in the 1950s the Ministry of Labour, the Ministry of Health and the Employee Hospital were built along it, and the Universidad del Pacífico is also on it.1
