Ortigas Center is Metro Manila's second business district after Makati, more than 100 hectares across Pasig, Mandaluyong and Quezon City.1 It began as the Hacienda de Mandaloyong, an Augustinian estate that Ortigas & Company bought in the 1920s and 1930s. Building took off in the 1960s, and SM Megamall, The Podium, Shangri-La Plaza and Robinsons Galleria now anchor it.1 The Ortigas Center Association, set up by Ortigas Land in 1982, manages the district, whose tenants include banks, Meralco and outsourcing firms such as Sykes.1

Kapitolyo, in Pasig, is a grid of low houses that SPOT.ph described in April 2025 as once lined with narra trees. It was expected to become the next Poblacion until the pandemic closed many businesses, and new cafés are now leading its revival.2

Local tip: Arts and Beans on West Capitol Drive opens at 07:00, earlier than most of Kapitolyo; for a late coffee, Coffee Blanc serves until 02:30 at weekends.
