Cafés in Poblacion & Rockwell
Makati's old town and bar streets, and the estate built on a power plant.
Poblacion was the first settlement of Makati and the old town's seat of government; its church, now Saints Peter and Paul Parish, was built by the Jesuits in 1620.1 The barangay had 16,706 residents on about 1 km² in 2020, and its blocks along P. Burgos Street, Kalayaan Avenue and Makati Avenue are Makati's entertainment district of restaurants, clubs and boutique hotels.1
Rockwell Center, next door on the Pasig River, stands where a Meralco thermal power plant ran until 1994. Power Plant Mall opened on December 26, 2000, and the 15.5-hectare estate is named after James Rockwell, a former Meralco president.2
