Šiška is Ljubljana's most populous district, about 34,800 people (2014) on 7.36 km², named after the former villages of Spodnja and Zgornja Šiška and taking in Koseze too.1 The Litostroj factory, founded here in 1947, built hydroelectric turbines, and housing blocks for its workers went up nearby.2

Visit Ljubljana calls Šiška a city within a city, with its own graffiti crew, 1107, named after the local postcode.3 Its hub is Kino Šiška, the Centre for Urban Culture on Trg prekomorskih brigad, opened in 2009 in a former cinema with a concert hall, a gallery, studios and a café-bar.23

Local tip: Go on a Saturday morning: the Koseze market at Vodnikova cesta 187 is on, and Kavarna Lokus by the pond opens at 07:00.3
