Keyes Art Mile and the galleries

Keyes Art Mile fills the Trumpet building on Keyes Avenue, next to the Everard Read, South Africa's oldest commercial art gallery.3 Its sister space, Circa, is known for a circular structure wrapped in metal fins, and on the first Thursday of every month the galleries stay open late for Keyes Art Night.3 A second phase, Keyes Art Mile 2.0, launched in April 2026.1

Oxford Road roasters

Oxford Road, which runs north to south through the suburb, is the main road corridor with Jan Smuts Avenue.1 Father opened its Rosebank shop in 2016, its second after Braamfontein.4 The roastery that once ran there has moved to Kramerville, and the Rosebank space now has a ping pong table.5 Father Coffee at The Zone stays open until 21:00 from Thursday to Saturday. The Zone itself is known for its open piazzas, and the City Sightseeing bus departs from there.3

Doubleshot, on the corner of Oxford Road and Jellicoe Avenue, roasts its own coffee and serves craft iced tea, pastéis de nata (Portuguese custard tarts) and custard-filled cannoli; In Your Pocket recommends its seasonal City blend.5

Parktown North's 7th Avenue

Parktown North was proclaimed a township in 1903, and it is the only Johannesburg suburb with numbered avenues but no numbered streets.6 7th Avenue mixes galleries with restaurants: Gallery MOMO shows contemporary African art at number 52 in a renovated early 20th-century house, and the Stevenson gallery moved to number 46 from Braamfontein in 2019.6

Gabriella's Tea Room is entered through bamboo arches to the right of Ciro's Mediterranean Cucina.6 Full Stop Café opens Tuesday to Sunday, from 10:00 on weekdays and 08:30 at weekends, and stays open until 23:00 on Saturday.

Jan Smuts Avenue and the Sunday market

Time Out names the corner of Jan Smuts Avenue and Bolton Road as Rosebank's liveliest, and the Rosebank Sunday Market as the weekend draw.7 The market is held on the rooftop of Rosebank Mall.3

Morning Glory Cafe is at 146 Jan Smuts Avenue, and Munch trades inside the Garden Shop at 167 Jan Smuts, on the corner of Bolton Road. Roast Republic and The Newsroom both open on weekdays from 08:00 to 16:00.
