Brunch in Madrid fills the gap before a Spanish lunch, which usually starts around 14:00 or 14:30 and runs until about 15:30.1 Most of the city’s brunch cafés open between 09:00 and 10:00, and several close by mid-afternoon.
Federal, a brunch and specialty-coffee café named after a small town in New South Wales, Australia, has three Madrid branches: Conde de Barajas, Serrano and Plaza de las Comendadoras.2 The Comendadoras café, at number 9 on the square in Conde Duque, opens 09:00–21:00 from Monday to Saturday and 09:00–19:00 on Sunday.3
Local tip: On a Rastro Sunday, browse the stalls first and brunch after: the market winds down at 15:00, and Mamúa on Plaza de Cascorro keeps serving well into the night.4
