Kreis 4 is Aussersihl, made up of the Werd, Langstrasse and Hard quarters, and locals call it Chreis Cheib, after the carcass pits that once lay here. It became a municipality in 1787, filled with factory workers, went bankrupt and was merged into Zurich in 1893; in 1913 it was split into Kreise 3, 4 and 5.1

Langstrasse is the city's most openly multicultural street, with about 42 percent foreign residents in its quarter, and parts of it are gentrifying.2 Studios and stylish bars sit beside strip clubs, and the area is clean and safe despite its name.3 For coffee, it is where many of Zurich's roasters and brunch cafés have settled.

Local tip: On Sundays, when Ombak and Radix are closed, Miró on Brauerstrasse opens at 09:00 and Kafi für Dich on Stauffacherstrasse at 09:00 as well.
