Wi-Fi and a table for a working morning, from Hackney to the City.

Plenty of London cafés offer Wi-Fi, but laptop rules are set café by café, and some are written on the tables. At Lumberjack on Camberwell Church Street, small wooden signs reading "no laptop tables" stand on about half the tables, and WatchHouse at Battersea Power Station asks that laptops are used only at the bar.1
Elsewhere the room decides. A September 2026 round-up of work-friendly cafés pointed laptop users to the basement dining room at Ozone on Leonard Street, noted that Prufrock's back room on Leather Lane closes for barista training courses, and called The Attendant on Foley Street a terrible place to work, with almost no table surface.1
Local tip: In the Square Mile, log in once to the free "O2 Wi-Fi" network and it carries on along the street between cafés.2

Hackney has the most cafés with Wi-Fi, followed by Shoreditch & Hoxton and Bethnal Green & Mile End. On Sidworth Street, 21 Sid Tarot & Coffee opens 08:00–18:00 on weekdays and Finch Cafe at number 12 stays open until 23:00 on Thursdays and Fridays. Broadway Market's Wi-Fi cafés include The Bach and Third Culture Deli, which opens at 07:45 on weekdays.
In Shoreditch, FWD:Coffee has two cafés, at 161a Whitecross Street and 126 Curtain Road, both open 07:00–19:00 on weekdays and from 08:00 at weekends. Lift Coffee on Rivington Street and Beans Love Greens on Calvert Avenue keep shorter days, closing at 16:00. In Bethnal Green, Mae + Harvey at 414–416 Roman Road runs 08:00–16:00 on weekdays.
The City of London runs free public Wi-Fi across the Square Mile. The network appears as "O2 Wi-Fi", needs a one-time login, is free and unlimited for all users, and reaches up to 200 Mbps from 156 access points.2 City cafés with their own Wi-Fi keep office hours: V69 Coffee at 30 Gresham Street opens weekdays 08:00–16:00, and Flow Coffee at 167 Queen Victoria Street closes at 15:00 on Fridays.
The British Library at St Pancras has free Wi-Fi with no username or password; you accept the terms and connect.3 The building opens Monday to Thursday 09:30–20:00, Friday until 18:00, Saturday until 17:00 and Sunday 11:00–17:00, and the Reading Rooms need a free Reader Pass.3
Sockets are scarcer than Wi-Fi. Euphorium at 23 Barrett Street in Marylebone has both and opens until 17:30 on weekdays and 18:00 at weekends. The Imax Cafe at 1 Charlie Chaplin Walk, by Waterloo, has sockets and stays open until 21:00 every day.
The same September 2026 round-up flagged a free option: Santander Work Cafés, including one at 69 Cheapside, offer free high-speed Wi-Fi with no time limit, weekdays 08:00–16:00.1
About two thirds of the Wi-Fi cafés with posted hours close by 18:00, so evening work takes planning. The Courts Café in Hyde Park runs until 21:00 every day, Istanbul Cafe & Bistro on Great Portland Street until 23:00, and Café Hebe at 258 Kingsland Road until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. La Casetta Cafe at 160 Clerkenwell Road opens 10:00–22:00 daily.
