Few Seattle espresso bars serve after 20:00; the late trade belongs to tea shops, bubble-tea counters and dessert cafés. The University District has the most late openers, ahead of Capitol Hill and Pioneer Square and the International District, and most of them are on University Way NE, The Ave.
In winter the evening starts early: Seattle averages about 8.5 hours of daylight a day in December, and November is the wettest month, so late cafés are as much about shelter as coffee.1
Local tip: For coffee rather than tea after 22:00, head to Café on the Ave on University Way NE, open until midnight every day.
