Phước Tân and Phước Tiến are the old ward names for the blocks west of the tourist quarter, around Nha Trang station and the cathedral beside it.12 In November 2024 they were merged with Tân Lập into Tân Tiến ward, which joined the new Nha Trang ward in 2025.34

After the beachfront, this is the city's busiest café district. The best known backs onto the railway; the others sit on Âu Cơ, Cổ Loa, Nguyễn Khanh, Ngô Gia Tự and Tố Hữu, with one smoothie shop among them.

Local tip: Go to Quán Cà Phê Đường Tàu on a weekday before 07:00: the morning passenger trains pass around 07:00–07:30, and Sundays bring fewer trains.76

The station, the cathedral and Long Sơn

Nha Trang station stands at 17 Thái Nguyên. The line from Saigon reached the city in 1913, and the station moved to this site when the north–south railway was completed in 1936.1 Trains to Ho Chi Minh City take about 7.5 to 8 hours, and to Da Nang about 10.1

Next door, Christ the King Cathedral, a Gothic Revival church, was finished in 1928 and consecrated in 1933; its bell tower followed in 1935.2 Long Sơn Pagoda, with a 24 m white Buddha, is a 5 to 7 minute walk from the station and free to enter between 08:00 and 17:00.15 At the pagoda, watch for people posing as students who ask for donations.5

The café on the railway at 66a Nguyễn Trãi

Quán Cà Phê Đường Tàu (railway café) opened in June 2024 with the tracks behind it. A wall separates the tables from the line, which makes it safer than the cafés on Hanoi's Trần Phú–Phùng Hưng stretch, and most customers are Vietnamese.6 As of 2025 it opens 06:00–22:30, serves mainly coffee and fruit juice, and charges 35,000–60,000₫ a drink.7

The owner counts six or seven passenger trains a day, mostly in two windows, 07:00–07:30 and 18:00–20:00, with a few freight trains in between.7 Sundays bring fewer trains, and on one day of the National Day holiday in 2024 the café expected more than 200 guests, some of whom waited all day for one photo.6

Âu Cơ, Cổ Loa and the streets west

Âu Cơ has two of the area's cafés. GURU Natural Specially Coffee at 3b opens 09:00–17:30 and serves brunch. Capybara Coffee & Tea at 34 keeps 07:00–22:00, and a July 2026 food guide lists a capybara café at that address where entry, with one drink and feed for the animals, costs 65,000–85,000₫.8

Cà phê Cây Bàng is at 02B Cổ Loa and Huyền Cà Phê at 39 Nguyễn Khanh, both with Wi-Fi. Cà Phê Đất Việt is on Tố Hữu, and Shuyi at 147 Ngô Gia Tự, on the edge toward the tourist quarter. Cafe Dai Viet, at 52 23 Tháng 10 (23 October Street), has tables inside and out, as does SINH TỐ CÔ TƯ, the area's smoothie shop.

Hours west of the tourist quarter

The railway café opens earliest, at 06:00, and closes last, at 22:30. PK runs 06:30–21:30 and Capybara Coffee & Tea until 22:00, while GURU closes at 17:30. For a train with breakfast, aim for the first window: the morning passenger trains pass between 07:00 and 07:30.7
