Brunch is an import in a city that eats late and saves its appetite for the merienda, the afternoon snack; a full breakfast ranks well behind it, the Buenos Aires Herald noted in 2024.1 Malvón is credited with bringing New York-style brunch to Argentina around 2009, and Time Out wrote in March 2026 that while brunch has faded from menus in other capitals, here it has become a favorite weekend plan.2
Perfil described the format in 2022 as North American in inspiration and offered by cafés, restaurants and bars alike: hot drinks, fresh juices and sometimes cocktails, house breads, pastries and savory plates.3 Palermo Soho has the most brunch cafés of any barrio, with others scattered through Recoleta, Retiro, Belgrano and Villa Crespo.
Local tip: On a Sunday, Gustó Café opens only at 11:00 and Darwin Pan y Café closes at 15:00; Hobby on Malabia is the early option, from 07:30 every day.
Where these cafés are: Palermo Soho (7), Recoleta (2), San Telmo & La Boca (1), Villa Crespo (1), Núñez, Saavedra & Villa Urquiza (1), Retiro (1), Palermo Hollywood (1), Las Cañitas (1), Belgrano (1).

In Recoleta, Nataria Portuguesa, at Vicente López 1624, opens daily 09:00–20:00, and Cafe del medio, at Montevideo 960, serves on weekdays only, 09:00–18:00.
