Buenos Aires runs late. Before the pandemic, 22:00 to 23:00 was the usual time to sit down to dinner, a restaurateur told La Nación in 2021, though many restaurants have since added a first seating at 19:00.1 The city's tourism office says bars come alive from 22:00 and boliches, the nightclubs, get going around 02:00, and it suggests a late coffee in a 19th-century café.2
Once a year the old cafés make a night of it. The fifth Noche de los Bares Notables, on Thursday 24 September 2026, kept more than 75 historic cafés and bars in 25 barrios open from 17:00 to midnight, with free entry, music, special menus and guided walks along Florida, Avenida Callao and the historic center.3
Local tip: Check the day before a late coffee: La Farola, La balada and Quesada stretch their hours only toward the weekend, while Café del Arbol and Café Tabac keep the same late close every night.

Café Tabac, on the corner of Avenida del Libertador and Coronel Díaz, at the edge of Recoleta and Palermo, has been a fixture of the area since 1969.4 In the winter of 1989 the novelist Tomás Eloy Martínez met Colonel Héctor Cabanillas there, the officer who had run the operation that hid Eva Perón's body, and left with the documents behind his novel Santa Evita.4 Tabac is a bar notable and opens daily 07:00–02:00.5
Josephina's Café, at Guido 1532, is one of the newest additions to the catalog of bares notables, and it stays open until 00:00 from Monday to Saturday.35 In Boedo, the tourism office gives Café Margot's hours as 08:00–02:00 every day.6
Avenida Santa Fe has the most late hours on a single street. El Secreto de Oro, at 4500, opens around the clock; Tolón, at 3200, closes at midnight; and Confitería del Botánico, at 3799, serves until 22:00 every day.
Around Alto Palermo, La Farola stays open until 02:00 on Fridays and Saturdays and until midnight the rest of the week, and Paru Deli, at Cerviño 3812, reopens 20:00–00:00 after a midday shift. Cafe Pekinés, at José Antonio Cabrera 4501, opens daily 09:00–22:00.
The latest regular closing times are in the south. Café del Arbol, at Humberto I 424 in San Telmo, opens daily 09:00–03:00, and La Esquina de Omar, on Doctor Enrique Finochietto south of San Telmo, runs 07:00–03:00 on weekdays, closes at 20:00 on Saturdays and stays shut on Sundays.
On Avenida Corrientes, the tourism office points night owls to its many pizzerias and cafés, and to bookshops that stay open late into the evening.2 Farther west, Alessandro, on Pergamino, opens until midnight every day, from 09:00 Monday to Saturday and from 12:00 on Sunday.
In Belgrano, Green Eat, at Avenida Cabildo 1721, stays open until 23:00 from Wednesday to Saturday. Las Cañitas has Antaño, at Vuelta de Obligado 1101, open daily 08:00–00:00.
In Núñez, El Bohemio, at Donado 1802, closes at 23:45 every night; Ninina, at Holmberg 2464, serves until midnight at weekends; and Quesada stays open until 00:00 from Thursday to Saturday but closes on Sundays. In Colegiales, La balada cafe-bar, at Teodoro García 2920, opens until 01:00 on Fridays and Saturdays.
