Norwood lies about 4 km east of the city center. It was laid out as a village in 1847, and in 1853 its council became the first municipality outside the City of Adelaide.1 After the Second World War it drew many European migrants, Italians above all, and Greek was still among the most common languages spoken at home in the 2016 census.1
The Parade is its main street, a tree-lined, four-lane road with shops, pubs, cinemas and restaurants on both sides, and Norwood Oval, home of the Redlegs, stands on it.21 The Norwood Town Hall on The Parade is heritage-listed.2 In October 2026 a flat white in the Norwood, Payneham and St Peters area averaged A$5.24, close to the city figure.3
Local tip: Arrive at Argo before 08:00 at weekends, when it already opens at 06:30 on Saturday and 07:00 on Sunday.4
