Kent Town is the small suburb just east of the Park Lands, named after Dr Benjamin Archer Kent, a doctor who arrived in South Australia in 1840. Prince Alfred College, the boys' school on Dequetteville Terrace, forms its western edge, and much of Dr Kent's Paddock is now part of its grounds.1 Edwin Thomas Smith built the Kent Town Brewery on the site of Kent's cottage, and the Wesley Uniting Church on the main street was founded in 1864.1 About 1,443 people lived there at the 2021 census.1
A second Rundle Street runs through the middle of the suburb, picking up where Rundle Road leaves the Park Lands, and The Parade West starts here on its way to Norwood.23 Coffee is cheaper than average: in October 2026 a flat white in Kent Town averaged A$5.00, against A$5.21 across Adelaide.4
Local tip: Buy beans at Pogo rather than only a cup: the five blends are sold by the bag at the Kent Town bar.8
