Few Adelaide cafés are fully plant-based. Most are ordinary cafés with a strong vegetarian or vegan side to the menu, which is how Broadsheet frames its own list of the city's vegan-friendly cafés.1 The exception in the center is Veggie Vie, down a laneway on McHenry Street, which began as a mobile burger shop, became a juice bar and now runs a plant-based kitchen known for its barbecue jackfruit burger and vegan savory croissants.2
The CBD has the most cafés with vegetarian and vegan dishes, ahead of Burnside and Kensington in the eastern suburbs. Most keep breakfast-and-lunch hours, with about half closed by 15:00, and Veggie Vie itself opens weekdays, 08:00–14:00.
Local tip: Visit Veggie Vie on a weekday: it is down a laneway on McHenry Street and serves 08:00–14:00, Monday to Friday.2
Where these cafés are: CBD (6), Burnside, Kensington & Rose Park (4), Norwood (2), Kent Town (2), Unley & Hyde Park (1), Western suburbs (1), Goodwood & Wayville (1), East End (1), Glenelg (1), North Adelaide (1).

Seed and Stone Salad Bar, at 205 Pirie Street, opens 07:30–15:30 on weekdays and closes at weekends. Everything Brewtiful, at 10 Twin Street, keeps similar weekday hours, 07:30–14:00, with seats inside and out, and Cafe Bang Bang at 53 Hindley Street does takeaway as well as tables.
Broadsheet's list of vegan-friendly cafés picks out Ayla's Cafe in the East End and Sibling, on a quiet strip of the CBD at 96 Gilles Street.1 Taste Baguette in Hub Central serves weekdays until 18:00, late for a city café. In the East End, Penny University at 8–10 Union Street has vegan dishes and tables outside.
In Burnside and Kensington, hours run longer. White Picket at 10 Stuart Road opens at 06:15 from Monday to Saturday, GG's at 68 Dulwich Avenue serves until 17:30 on weekdays, Here & Now is at 400 Magill Road, and Taylorblend at 34 Hallett Road opens Tuesday to Sunday, 07:00–16:00. South of the city, Eggless is at 162 Goodwood Road, and Tweety Bird Cafe on Anzac Highway serves vegan dishes from Tuesday to Sunday.
In Norwood, Argo on The Parade makes Broadsheet's list for its vegan dishes.1 The Gator Club in College Park is known for vegan and gluten-free treats in an old corner store.3 Homeland in Kent Town has vegan options on its weekday menu.
My Grandma Ben in Bowden cooks a mainly vegetarian, no-waste menu, and Lady Luck in Mount Barker, in the Adelaide Hills, aims its brunch at vegan and gluten-free diners.3 Joy of Flora, a vegan kitchen and café, sits next to the train station in West Croydon.2
In Glenelg South, The Organik at 37 Broadway pairs a café with an organic grocer and serves gluten-free banana bread.4
