Specialty coffee in Brussels means light roasts, named origins and a choice of espresso, filter or batch brew. Visit.brussels gives the team behind Parlor Coffee, now a roaster on Rue Paepsem in Anderlecht that sells mostly online, the credit for introducing the term to the city.1 The Way to Coffee traces the first specialty shop in the center to OR Coffee, and describes a quiet spell before a new run of bars opened in 2016.2
Those bars have since spread well beyond the center. Sainte-Catherine and Dansaert have the most, ahead of the Grand-Place streets and the European Quarter, and a second group lines Chaussée de Charleroi (Charleroisesteenweg in Dutch) and Chaussée de Waterloo in Ixelles and Saint-Gilles. Most open by 08:30 and close by 18:00, which makes them a morning habit rather than an evening one.
Local tip: Kaffabar on Place Rouppe closes on Sundays and Mondays; on a Sunday, My Little Cup on Rue de la Croix de Fer opens at 09:00 and Rocket's in Forest at 08:00.
Where these cafés are: Sainte-Catherine & Dansaert (6), Grand-Place & Centre (5), Châtelain & Avenue Louise (5), European Quarter & Etterbeek (5), Uccle & Forest (3), Saint-Gilles (3), Schaerbeek & Saint-Josse (2), Flagey & Matonge (2), Marolles & Sablon (1), Molenbeek & Anderlecht (1), Laeken & the north (1).
Nothing matches those filters here. See all cafés in Brussels.
My Little Cup opened at Rue de la Croix de Fer 53 in March 2014, before the 2016 wave.2 It roasted with Belleville, a Paris micro-roaster, for several years before taking on other roasters, and it opens at 07:30 on weekdays.2
Kaffabar arrived on Place Rouppe in 2016, the year its founder Marc Daniels was named Best Barista by the Venuez trade show.3 It brews fast or slow, keeps vegan and gluten-free sweets, and its mascot is an English bulldog called Marcel.3 Jens Crabbé had opened MOK in Leuven in 2012, and he brought it to Brussels in September 2016.2
MOK's coffee is roasted light in Leuven, and the selection changes every couple of weeks.2 The bar at Rue Antoine Dansaert 196 serves it 08:00–18:00 on weekdays and from 10:00 at weekends. Wide Awake, on Rue Sainte-Catherine (Sint-Katelijnestraat) since 2019, roasts at CoHop in Anderlecht and sells its beans over the counter.3 Black Potion Coffee at Rue du Midi 43, a few streets from the Grand-Place, is the micro-roastery visit.brussels calls experimental.1
Boo Coffee Roasters roasts in the COOP building on Quai Fernand Demets, by the canal in Anderlecht, with filter and espresso roasts from small producers; in June 2026 its founder became the first Belgian world champion in coffee roasting.1 In Schaerbeek, Cafe Colombia on Avenue Maréchal Foch roasts Latin American beans on site and is open daily 08:00–20:00.1
Hinterland at Chaussée de Charleroi 179 pours lattes, slow coffees, chai and a golden mylk of coconut milk and turmeric.3 It closes on Wednesdays and at 15:30 on weekdays. At Chaussée de Waterloo 559, Batch pours coffee from the roaster La Cabra, and malō at number 586 sells sweet and savory bagels with its cups.1 Pardon on Rue de Moscou serves its specialty coffee with waffles.1
In the European Quarter, Utamu Collective on Place Jean Rey and tulipe on Avenue Albert-Elisabeth both open at 08:00 on weekdays, and Kapa Specialty Coffee & Bakery starts at 07:00 from Tuesday to Sunday. Near the Sablon, Kafei Korner at Rue Joseph Stevens 2 is one of three cafés run by the same Belgian-born siblings, known for Japanese-style fluffy pancakes.5
In 2023 a coffee at MOK and at Kaffabar started at €2.90, and a latte at My Little Cup at €4.25.4 Barkboy on Rue de l'Enseignement and My Little Cup both sell to take away, and Barkboy is known for its canned coffee.1
Sunday and Monday are the thin days. Kaffabar closes on both, Urkunina Specialty Roasters on Chaussée Saint-Pierre closes on Sunday, and MOK Studio, the listening bar on Rue Saint-Laurent, opens only Wednesday to Saturday. Rocket's Specialty Coffee on Boulevard de la Deuxième Armée Britannique (Britse Tweedelegerlaan) in Forest serves every day from 08:00 to 19:00.
