Egypt has the fastest fixed broadband in Africa: in February 2025 its median download speed was 84.52 Mbps on Ookla's Speedtest index, figures the cabinet published.1 Laptops have followed the connection into cafés, and by May 2026 Sunday had become a common work-from-home day, with freelancers and students taking unfinished tasks to a café table.2

Maadi has the most cafés with Wi-Fi, ahead of Mohandessin and Dokki; Downtown and Nasr City come next, and Garden City, Zamalek, Giza and Mokattam add one or two each. Several of them stay open past midnight or around the clock.

Local tip: If you work at a café for hours, leave E£5–10 on top of the bill; the service charge does not always reach the staff.5

Where these cafés are: Maadi (7), Mohandessin & Dokki (5), Downtown (Wust el-Balad) (3), Nasr City (3), Zamalek (2), Garden City (2), Mokattam (1), Giza (1).
