La Guillotière grew up in the Middle Ages at the end of the bridge over the Rhône, and its old Place du Pont is today's Place Gabriel-Péri.1 It was a separate commune until 24 March 1852, when it was attached to Lyon as a 3rd arrondissement that covered today's 3rd, 6th, 7th and 8th.1

Italians arrived in the 19th century, followed by people from the Maghreb, Turkey, Asia and sub-Saharan Africa; Lyon's Chinese quarter lies around Rue Passet and Rue Pasteur.1 The Armenian merchant who founded the Bahadourian grocery set up here in 1929.1 The cafés range from small cafés on Rue Béchevelin to brunch rooms and late bars on Rue Salomon Reinach.
