Kuala Lumpur wrote café Wi-Fi into its licensing rules early. In January 2012 the city announced that restaurants, cafés, pubs, bars and clubs larger than 120 m² would have to offer wireless internet from April, free or for a reasonable fee, as a condition of a new or renewed license.12 The council also planned to extend the requirement to hawker food courts.1
KLCC has the most cafés with Wi-Fi, ahead of Chinatown, with Mont Kiara and Bukit Bintang next. In Chinatown they sit within a few blocks: Lokl Coffee Co on Jalan Tun H.S. Lee, Merchant's Lane on Jalan Petaling, Mingle Cafe and Yew Yew Coffee on Jalan Sultan, and Sunbather Coffee on Jalan Panggung.
Local tip: For a full day on one laptop charge and one table, start at Lokl Coffee Co on Jalan Tun H.S. Lee, which opened 08:00–17:00 with plenty of charging points in December 2024, and move to Feeka on Jalan Mesui, open until 23:00, for the evening.3
Where these cafés are: KLCC (8), Chinatown & Merdeka Square (5), Mont Kiara & Sri Hartamas (4), Bukit Bintang (3), Old Klang Road & Taman Desa (2), Petaling Jaya (2), Segambut & Kenny Hills (2), Sentul & Titiwangsa (1), Kepong & Sungai Penchala (1), Jalan TAR & Chow Kit (1), Taman Tun Dr Ismail (1), Pudu (1).

A December 2024 round-up of work-friendly cafés gives a sense of what a working session costs. Superluna KL, in KLEC Mall on Jalan Bangsar, had strong Wi-Fi and charging points, opened only on weekdays from 07:30 to 17:00, and charged RM12 for a latte.3
Pause Cafe at 140 Jalan Choo Cheng Khay in Kampung Attap offered Wi-Fi and charging points, opened 10:00–19:00 from Tuesday to Friday, and sold a matcha drink for RM15. In Petaling Jaya, M'Laboori By Murni Discovery on Jalan SS 2/75 had Wi-Fi and charging points and stayed open 12:00–00:00 daily.3
With an annual mean daily maximum of 32.9°C, the air-conditioned room matters as much as the router for a long session.4 Blitz X Colony on Jalan Kia Peng, Artisan Roast Sentul, Petra Pudu Rooftop Cafe on Jalan Pudu, and Ginger KL Cafe and La Pala at Bamboo Hills in Segambut all have Wi-Fi and air-conditioning.
Not every brew bar wants laptops. Curio Dark Cafe, a basement café at The Grange on Jalan Ampang, has no Wi-Fi and no power outlets, and Toothless Coffee in Petaling Jaya, a small roastery known for a weekend coffee omakase, has only a few seats.5
Phone data is a realistic fallback when café Wi-Fi slows. In Ookla's results for the first half of 2026, U Mobile was Malaysia's fastest 5G network, with a median download speed of 348.73 Mbps.6
Hotspotting also helps at cafés that have Wi-Fi but close early: Charlie's Cafe & Bakery at 29 Jalan Bukit Desa 5 opens only 11:00–15:00, Monday to Saturday, and Blitz X Colony closes at 16:00.
For an early start, Kopenhagen Coffee on Jalan Kiara 3 opens at 07:00 on weekdays, and Lokl Coffee Co at 08:00 daily. VCR on Jalan Galloway opens 08:30–20:00, and Cafe : In House in KLCC 08:00–20:00. Gua Cafe at 8 Jalan 28/70A in Sri Hartamas closes at 17:00 and on Mondays.
For evening work, Feeka Coffee Roasters on Jalan Mesui runs until 23:00 and Artisan Coffee HQ on Jalan 13/2 in Petaling Jaya until midnight. Tujoh Cafe on Jalan 17/10, also in Petaling Jaya, and Await Cafe on Old Klang Road stay open until 23:00 on Friday and Saturday.
