Specialty kava in Ljubljana is mostly roasted in town. Pražarna roasts at Dunajska cesta 61, R&B Cafe Roasters at Slovenska cesta 47, and Mala Pražarna, a micro-roastery for single origins, at Krakovski nasip 10.123 Each sells its beans by the bag, so the bar doubles as a shop.
The rest of the scene is small and personal. Črno Zrno, on Gornji trg, buys from remote Colombian farms and was the only café recommended in a New York Times feature on Ljubljana, according to Sprudge in 2019. Its owner, Alexander Niño Ruiz, is a Colombian architect, and at the time his own coffee line was roasted by STOW in Kamnik.4 Tri Marije works out of a coffee trailer and calls itself an artisanal coffee van; its team learned coffee traveling through South America.5

Three roasters and what their beans cost
R&B stands for roaster and barista. The café roasts its own single-origin coffee, sells roasting to businesses and books sessions in which guests roast a batch themselves.2 In 2024 its espresso choice ran to Brazil, Colombia, Ethiopia and a specialty decaf, alongside cortados, coffee cocktails and an all-day brunch.6
Pražarna's founder, Damir Jusović, does the roasting. In October 2026 its online shop priced a 200-gram Colombia at €8.00, a 200-gram Peru at €11.50 and a 150-gram Ethiopia at €11.00.1 Mala Pražarna's 200-gram bags ran from €9.50 to €24.00, the top price for a Colombian from Finca MonteBlanco, with free shipping in Slovenia on two bags or more.3
What a specialty cup costs
In April 2025 a kava z mlekom on the riverside cost between €2.40 and €3.00.7 At Kavarna Moderna, whose menu from 1 November 2025 lists single-origin espresso at €2.30 with 10 grams of coffee per single shot and 19 per double, a flat white costs €4.40 and a guest roaster's V60 €6.00.8
A specialty bela kava, the large milky coffee, could already cost more than €3 in 2023, and oat or rice milk usually costs extra.9
Where to find the bars
The Old Town and the Center have most of them. Črno Zrno is at Gornji trg 17, under the castle, and Tri Marije parks its trailer on Adamič-Lundrovo nabrežje, the embankment by the Central Market.5 In the Center, R&B is on Slovenska cesta and Renaissance Specialty Coffee at Trubarjeva cesta 7, open 08:00–15:00 Monday to Saturday and 10:00–14:00 on Sundays.
Further out, Pražarna anchors Bežigrad and Mala Pražarna Krakovo. C1 Premična Kavarna, at Italijanska ulica 7 in Moste, keeps the shortest hours of the group: 11:00–15:00 on weekdays and 12:00–15:00 on Saturdays.
The coffee festival
The Ljubljana Coffee Festival, which Sprudge calls Slovenia's largest specialty coffee event, began in 2016. The 2026 edition ran on 26–27 September at Centre Rog, 11:00–18:00 both days, with unlimited tastings, a Roasters Village, a latte art throwdown, workshops and a lecture series called THE LAB.10
