Poblenou is the seaside part of the Sant Martí district, stretching from the Parc de la Ciutadella to Sant Adrià del Besòs.1 In the 19th century it was the center of Catalan industry, nicknamed the Catalan Manchester. In 2000 the city rezoned its factory land as 22@, a district of 115 blocks and 198 hectares for technology and media firms.2
More than 4,500 companies moved in after 2000, and the district's industrial heritage plan protects 114 elements.2 Cafés cluster on Carrer de Pujades and the Rambla del Poblenou, among them roasters, brunch rooms and office lunch spots.
Local tip: Plan Poblenou coffee for a weekday: Nomad's Frutas Selectas on Carrer de Pujades opens Monday to Friday, 09:00–17:00, and Skye Coffee on Carrer de Pamplona is closed at weekends.
