Bread came long before the coffee shops. Emirati breakfasts traditionally center on regag, khameer and chebab, three breads cooked on a curved hot plate of the kind Bedouins used, and served with cheese, date syrup or eggs.1 The usual sweet is luqaimat, deep-fried balls of batter rolled in sesame seeds and drizzled with date honey.1

Downtown, DIFC and Business Bay have the most bakery cafés, from Pechka Cafe and Bakery on Al Mustaqbal Street to Nostalgie Cafe & Bakery and IL Forno Italiano at the Dubai Mall. Elsewhere they come one or two to a district, from Snacks & Bakes Cafeteria on Al Sabkha Road in Deira to Lift Cafe & Bakery in Al Barsha.

Local tip: Go to Alserkal Avenue in the morning for Subko's kouign amann, then walk to Pekoe at Warehouse 59 for a sourdough or shokupan loaf to take home.34

Flatbread at the cafeteria counter

Baking here is old: grinding stones and fired clay ovens at archaeological sites show grain was processed in the area by the third millennium BC.1 Today the cheapest bread in the city comes from tandoors and cafeteria kitchens. In February 2022 several tandoor owners in Dubai and Sharjah raised the price of a flatbread from Dh1 to Dh1.25, and a Pakistani baker in Al Quoz told Khaleej Times he had raised his prices to stay in business.2

In Deira, Snacks & Bakes Cafeteria on Al Sabkha Road puts the two trades under one name.

Laminated dough at Alserkal Avenue

Subko Specialty Coffee Roasters and Bakehouse, the Mumbai brand founded by Rahul Reddy, opened its first branch outside India at Alserkal Avenue at the end of 2025. Across two levels it roasts coffee, laminates dough and makes chocolate in full view of customers, and What's On singles out its kouign amann, the buttery Breton pastry.3

Pekoe Tea and Bread Bar, at Warehouse 59 on 17th Street, is known for whisked matcha, single-origin loose teas, soft sourdough and shokupan, the Japanese white loaf.4 Casa Alma Café in Gold & Diamond Park also bakes, as does مرزام كافيه (Mirzam café) on 4 Street.

Cake shops in Karama and the Marina

Several bakery cafés began as cake makers. Katrina Sweets & Confectionery was founded in Dubai in 2007 and later opened coffee shops and kiosks under its name; Katrina Coffee and Bakes in Dubai Marina is one of them.5

In Karama, Bakery Bites Cafe has baked birthday, wedding and community cakes since 2015, and makes custom orders for families in the district.6 Cafe Cache, in the Al Wasl Duet 2 building on 43a Street, also bakes.

Early loaves and late pastries

Hours vary more than at coffee bars. Home Bakery in Jumeirah opens at 07:00 and closes at midnight from Sunday to Thursday, and Lift Cafe & Bakery in Al Barsha serves 07:00–01:00 every day. Pechka, on Al Mustaqbal Street, keeps a working day, 08:00–18:00 from Monday to Saturday.

Delphi Cafe in Azizi Riviera bakes and never closes, and Cozy Cabana by Marasi Drive, another bakery café, serves until 04:00. Stay Cafe & Bakery is in Jumeirah too.
