Qahwa mukhtassa (قهوة مختصة), Arabic for specialty coffee, names a grade before it names a style. The usual definition is coffee that scores 80 points or more out of 100 on the Specialty Coffee Association's cupping form, with no more than five defects in 350 g of milled beans. Erna Knutsen first used the English term in 1974, in Tea & Coffee Trade Journal.1
Dubai's roasters mostly work out of warehouses, and Al Quoz has the densest cluster by a wide margin, ahead of Jumeirah, Downtown, Dubai Marina and Umm Suqeim. Its roasting floors run from Nightjar at Alserkal Avenue to Earth Roastery and Julith on 6th Street, and What's On's September 2026 tour of the district even took in a custom motorcycle garage that roasts its own coffee.2
Local tip: Order the rotating single origin as a V60 at the slow bar, and buy a bag on the way out: Al Quoz roasters priced single origins from AED 67–70 in October 2026.56

Roasting floors around Alserkal Avenue
Nightjar Coffee Roasters roasts inside Alserkal Avenue, at Warehouse G62, and says it buys green coffee by direct trade or under fully transparent contracts at origin.23 Part of each roast becomes cold brew poured on draft, next to nitro drinks and kombucha on tap. As of September 2026 the café opened 08:00–21:00 from Monday to Wednesday and 08:00–23:00 from Thursday to Sunday.32
Earth Roastery, a Kuwaiti roaster with a café on 6th Street in Industrial Area 3, trades directly with farmers and is known for its V60 pour-overs.2 Fairouz Coffee and Roastery, Smash speciality coffee on 3B Street and The Espresso Lab's roastery also work in the district.
Julith and the Industrial Area 3 roasteries
Julith Coffee & Roastery opened in the Kunooz warehouses on 1 August 2025, with a glass-walled roastery on the ground floor. Its head roaster, Serkan Sağsöz, is a Turkish barista champion. The name comes from the first two letters of each word in "just like this".4
The coffee is split across three stations: an espresso bar with a chocolate-forward house blend and two rotating single origins, a slow bar for V60s with aged beans matured for up to a year, and a rotovap milk program that removes water from the milk for a sweeter, creamier cup.4
A few blocks away, Emirati Coffee Roastery is at Warehouse 1, 14 9B Street. It opens 09:00–17:00 from Monday to Friday and 09:00–15:00 on Saturday, and closes on Sunday.5
What a bag of beans costs
Roasters here sell beans as well as cups. As of October 2026, Cypher Roastery priced single origins from Colombia, Papua New Guinea and Indonesia from AED 70, and Emirati Coffee started its Yemen West Haraz at AED 67, the same as its Emirati-style ground coffee with cardamom.65 Experimental lots cost more: Emirati Coffee's carbonic-maceration Bona Zuria started at AED 115.5
For a first cup in Al Quoz, What's On's group content director recommends the Working Blend at RAW Coffee Company, the original house coffee made to go with milk, or asking which single origin is on.7
Brew bars beyond Al Quoz
In Downtown and DIFC the specialty bars sit in office blocks: Encounter Coffee Roastery in DIFC, ABC Coffee Roasters at One Central and The Espresso Lab in Building 7 of Dubai Design District. The Espresso Lab says it has won the UAE's national barista title four times since the championship began in 2010, and the Brewers Cup five times since 2016.8
On the coast, Air Speciality Coffee is at 545 Jumeira Street, and Umm Suqeim has Blanco Specialty Coffee and Cremolata, which pairs gelato with specialty coffee. In Dubai Marina, Roast on Al Seba Street serves specialty coffee 07:00–01:00 every day. Boon Coffee Roasters' founder, Orit Mohammed, comes from generations of coffee farmers and roasters, and the company buys mainly from farms in Ethiopia.9
