Mozart's Coffee Roasters has roasted its beans in-house since it opened on Lake Austin in 1993; the same beans go into the café's espresso and brewed coffee and into bags to take home.1 Cuvée Coffee calls itself Texas's original specialty coffee roaster, and as of October 2026 its espresso blends start at US$19.80 a bag in its online shop.2
East Austin has the most specialty bars, ahead of South Austin, and a smaller line of them follows Guadalupe Street from the university north into Hyde Park. Several of the bars are run by the roasters themselves; others, like a trailer on Tillery Street, rotate beans from several roasters.
Local tip: For specialty coffee after dark, Mozart's on Lake Austin Boulevard serves until midnight every day, and Cuvée's bar on East Avenue stays open until 22:00 from Thursday to Saturday.12
