Tuyền Lâm is a reservoir: in 1987 a dam across the Tía stream created a lake of about 320 hectares, some 7 km from the center along National Road 20 toward Prenn Pass.1 At dawn fog lies on the water and lifts as the sun comes up, and people fish from the banks.1

In 2017 the lake became a national tourist area, planned over about 2,944 hectares, though by September 2026 only 16 of its 33 approved projects were operating.2 The area also takes in the town's southern streets, Ba Tháng Tư, Đống Đa, An Bình and Khe Sanh, and its cafés range from garden cafés in town to a streamside room in the forest.

Local tip: Reach the lake early, while fog still lies on the water,1 and plan lunch and coffee before 17:00, when the cafés out here start to close.

Getting here: Prenn, Mimosa and the lake road

Prenn Pass, 7.37 km long, was widened from two lanes to four and reopened in early 2024. When a landslide closed it in April that year, traffic went over the Mimosa pass or through the Tuyền Lâm tourist area instead.6 Datanla waterfall is on the Prenn side, about 3 km below the top of the pass.6

Trúc Lâm and the cable car

Trúc Lâm Zen Monastery stands on Phượng Hoàng Hill by the lake. Its buildings, designed by Ngô Viết Thụ and Nguyễn Tín, opened on 13 March 1994, and the grounds cover 24 hectares.3 Entry is free, and from the shore 140 steps climb through three gates to the temple.54

A cable car runs to the monastery from Robin Hill;5 in February 2026 it cost 150,000₫ return or 120,000₫ one way.4

Cafés by the water and in the forest

The Seen House, at 18 Tuyền Lâm on the lake's east bank, is a relaxed lakeside café with outdoor seats; Vietnam Coracle priced its coffee at 35,000–55,000₫ in 2022.7 Past the Tuyền Lâm bridge, Hoa Cẩm Tú Cầu leads on for about 6 km to a signed side road for Suối Mơ, a stream and waterfall in the forest with a café on the bank.8

Sam Cafe is on the same road, Tiệm cà phê Nhà Bên Suối at 3 Trúc Lâm Yên Tử, and Tay Mo Amateurs Cafe opens 08:30–17:30 on Mondays and from Thursday to Sunday.

The south side of town

Closer in, Ba Tháng Tư has Cafe Guitar Mộc Căn Nhà Xưa at No. 31B, and the lanes off it drop to valley cafés. Lưng Chừng, in Hẻm 31/8, is a small wooden house among pines; Vietnam Coracle found it near the valley floor under Prenn Pass, serving Vietnamese-style coffee at about 50,000₫ in 2022.97

Đống Đa has Ami Garden at No. 14 and Cánh Đồng Tuyết, Khe Sanh has The pet house at No. 25B and Ngõ hơi hẹp, open 08:00–18:00 with outdoor seats, and Wi' Dalat is at 72 An Bình. The cafés out here that post their hours all open at 08:00 or later and close by 18:00.
