Outside the ticketed lanes, Hội An is an ordinary provincial town, and the motorbikes come back. On paper it became part of Da Nang in 2025, when the city was dissolved and its Old Town quarter became a ward called Hội An.5 The streets that matter for coffee lie north and east of the old center: Lê Hồng Phong, Lê Quý Đôn, Trần Cao Vân, Thái Phiên, Nguyễn Tri Phương, and Cửa Đại road heading out toward the sea.
Prices drop once you leave the river. A sit-down meal costs about 60,000–120,000₫ in ordinary restaurants as of 2026, against 80,000–150,000₫ at riverfront and Ancient Town places aimed at visitors.6 Cafés tend to follow the same pattern, and most on this ring of streets have Wi-Fi.
Local tip: If you're staying north of the Old Town, Bao's coffee place and Bonte café on Lê Hồng Phong both open at 06:00; most of the other early cafés are on Trần Hưng Đạo in the Old Town.

Phan Châu Trinh, where the old center meets the town
Phan Châu Trinh runs parallel to Trần Phú, one block inland, and is where the heritage lanes start turning into the everyday town. Since 15 May 2023 the stretch from Nguyễn Huệ to Cao Hồng Lãnh has closed to motor traffic from 17:30 to 21:30 in summer and to 21:00 in winter, and a second stage reaching Hoàng Diệu was planned from January 2024 with hours starting at 15:00.1
The street is also where two of Hội An's best-known cheap meals ended up. Trương Thị Phượng's bánh mì began as a stall at Hội An market before moving here; Anthony Bourdain first ate it in 2007 and came back about two years later to film it.3 Cơm Gà Bà Buội, a chicken-rice shop at 22 Phan Châu Trinh, also grew out of a market stall.2
Where the town cafés are
On Lê Hồng Phong, Bao's coffee place at 72B and Bonte café at 99 both start at 06:00, and Bonte has outdoor seating. Around the corner, Vintage Taste Deli Cafe at 39 Lê Quý Đôn is a deli with a bakery counter and stays open until 22:00, as does Lapin Coffee House at 67 Trần Cao Vân.
SnapStay Hoi An at 16 Thái Phiên has air-conditioning and is open 07:00–21:30. Further out, Rosie's Cafe at 2 Mạc Đĩnh Chi serves brunch on weekdays and Saturday mornings, and UY VIET COFFEE BEAN at 580 Cửa Đại opens at 10:00 and closes at 22:00.
Local brands and local prices
On Hùng Vương there's a Trung Nguyên café, the chain founded in 1996 in Buôn Ma Thuột, the Central Highlands city that calls itself Vietnam's coffee capital.7 At 17 Nguyễn Tri Phương, a takeaway café named Cà Phê Muối takes its name from salt coffee, coffee topped with salted cream.
As a price check, a local-style coffee in the Old Town was about 20,000₫ as of late 2025, while a cappuccino there cost 60,000–65,000₫.4 For breakfast before coffee, a bowl of mì Quảng (turmeric noodles) with sugarcane juice at the Central Market costs about 45,000₫ as of 2026.6
Practical notes for staying in town
Many homestays in town include a bicycle in the room rate; renting one costs 30,000–50,000₫ a day near the Old Town as of 2026.6 A Grab ride across town costs 20,000–100,000₫ depending on distance.6
Town streets carry ordinary traffic all day, so a café table on Lê Hồng Phong is noisier than one inside the pedestrian lanes. The Old Town's vehicle-free windows, 09:00–11:00 and 15:00–22:00, don't apply out here.1
