Brunch cafés in Hội An

Breakfast in Hội An comes in two versions. The local one is quick and cheap: a bánh mì or a bowl of cao lầu at a stall, then a coffee somewhere else. The other is the café brunch menu, with eggs, toast, smoothies and coffee at the same table, which has followed the town's foreign visitors and residents.

Brunch cafés are spread more evenly than you might expect, across the Old Town, the town around it, the beaches and the rice fields.

Local tip: Eat the local breakfast first: a cao lầu in an alley off Trần Phú costs 35,000–45,000₫ as of 2026, and the brunch cafés will still be serving when you're done.

Where these cafés are: Around town (3), An Bàng & Cửa Đại (2), Old Town (2), Rice fields & villages (1).

Cao lầu and bánh mì, the local breakfast

Cao lầu is Hội An's own noodle dish: rice noodles soaked in lye water and wood ash, which gives them a firm, springy bite, served with pork and greens.12 Tradition holds that the true version needs water from the old Bá Lễ well and ash from trees on Cù Lao Chàm, and the dish is rarely found outside the town.12

The greens come from vegetable villages such as Trà Quế, about 2.5 km north of the center.5 Bánh mì, the baguette sandwich with pâté, pickles and a hot filling, is eaten here at breakfast, at lunch and as a snack.1

What breakfast costs in Hội An

As of 2026, a bowl of cao lầu costs 35,000–45,000₫ at the stalls in the back alleys off Trần Phú, and a pork bánh mì at Bánh Mì Phượng costs 35,000₫.3 Phượng is one of the two bánh mì shops the national tourism board recommends in Hội An.1 A late-2025 price guide put cao lầu at about 35,000₫ and a bánh mì at 15,000–30,000₫, so stall prices have barely moved.6
