Hội An's cafés come in three settings. In the Old Town many occupy timber-framed shophouses on lanes that close to motorbikes from 09:00 to 11:00 and again from 15:00 until 21:30 or 22:00, depending on the season.12 In the countryside they sit at the edge of paddies and vegetable plots such as Trà Quế, about 2.5 km north of the center.3 The third setting is the coast around An Bàng, a 4 km beach a few kilometers east of the Old Town.4

Officially, Hội An has been part of Da Nang since Quảng Nam province merged into the city on 1 July 2025, and the Old Town quarter is now a ward that is itself named Hội An.56 For a visitor it still works as a town of its own, with its own river, market and beach.

Hội An by area

The Old Town, the markets and most of Hội An's sights lie within a 2 km radius, so the Old Town, An Hội and the town around them are a short walk or bicycle ride apart.7 The rice fields of Trà Quế start about 2.5 km north of the center, and An Bàng beach a few kilometers east.34

How coffee works in Hội An

Ordering works as it does in Da Nang, whose airport is about 30 km north, roughly 45 minutes by road.7 In a sit-down café someone brings the menu to your table; you pay at the table or the counter, the word for the bill is tính tiền, and tipping is not expected.8 Tourist restaurants on the river and inside the Old Town charge 80,000–150,000₫ a dish as of 2026, and a local price guide warns that some places keep one price list for locals and another for tourists.79

The Old Town ticket, 120,000₫ for foreign visitors and 80,000₫ for Vietnamese, pays for entry to the heritage sites.107 For a local drink, try nước mót, Hội An's herbal tea of lemongrass, ginger, cinnamon, licorice and lemon with green tea and other herbs, served cold in hot weather and hot in winter.11 Hội An still runs largely on cash; Old Town restaurants and shops take cards, and bank-transfer QR codes have reached the stalls of Hội An market.713
