Brisbane brunch borrows from everywhere. Time Out's April 2026 list of the city's best cafés has breakfast carbonara with a 63-degree egg at Morning After in West End, shakshuka and a breakfast pita board at Naïm in Paddington, and phở and bánh mì (Vietnamese noodle soup and baguettes) from 07:00 at Café Ô-Mai in Annerley, beside a fully gluten-free menu at Nodo.1

Brunch here ends early. All but one of the brunch cafés with posted hours close by 15:00, and Little Red Providore at 63 Windsor Road shuts at 12:00 on Saturdays and Sundays. Only one starts before 06:30: Ashton & Old at 459 Old Cleveland Road, open daily from 06:00 to 14:00.

Local tip: For a Sunday brunch ahead of the queues, Ashton & Old on Old Cleveland Road opens at 06:00; check the menu for the surcharge line, which has to state the percentage and the days it applies.5

What brunch costs in West End

Vulture St. Espresso, at 85 Vulture Street, publishes its prices. As of October 2026 its menu lists free-range eggs on toast at A$10, the house smashed avocado and crème brûlée French toast at A$18.90 each, and the bao Benedict and Brissy hash cakes at A$21.2 Half serves of the smashed avocado and the bruschetta cost A$11, and the lunch side runs from a A$13.90 cheeseburger to a A$22 curry.2

The café calls its back courtyard a secret garden and opens daily from 07:00 to 15:00, Sunday included.2 Nearby, Hope on Boundary serves brunch on weekdays from 07:00, and Good Thing trades at the Montague Markets on Montague Road.

Windsor Road, Bennetts Road and the CBD

Red Hill has two brunch cafés on Windsor Road.3 Gramps Cafe at number 110 opens at 06:30 on weekdays and 07:00 at weekends, closing at 14:30, and Little Red Providore at 63 starts at 07:00 every day. On the southside, Happy Cafe at 130 Bennetts Road and Ashton & Old on Old Cleveland Road are both open seven days.

In the CBD, The Hideout Specialty Coffee on Adelaide serves on Saturdays and Sundays from 07:30 to 14:30, and Maillard Project is on Charlotte Street. Dot Dash Cafe in Fortitude Valley is a weekday option, from 06:30 to 15:30.

Weekend and public holiday surcharges

Penalty rates set the weekend wage bill. Under the Restaurant Industry Award, full-time and part-time staff earn 125% of their minimum hourly rate on Saturdays, 150% on Sundays and 225% on public holidays; casuals get 150% on Saturdays, 150% or 175% on Sundays depending on their level, and 250% on public holidays.4

Under national price-display rules, a venue that adds a surcharge on certain days doesn't need a separate menu, but the menu must carry the words 'a surcharge of [percentage] applies on [the specified day or days]'.5 Brisbane has one public holiday of its own: Ekka People's Day, the sixth day of the Royal Queensland Show, which fell on Wednesday 12 August in 2026 and falls on 11 August in 2027.6

Timing a weekend brunch

Arrive early on a Saturday. Hope on Boundary stops at 12:00 on Saturdays and stays shut on Sundays, and Little Red Providore closes at noon at weekends. Gramps stays open until 14:30 on both weekend days and Happy Cafe until 13:30.

Sunday is the bigger test. Of the brunch cafés with posted hours, Vulture St. Espresso, Ashton & Old, Gramps, Happy Cafe, Little Red Providore and The Hideout all open on Sundays, and Ashton & Old is the earliest, at 06:00. Some cafés save dishes for the weekend: Kin, at 24 Macquarie Street in Teneriffe, adds a chicken-bacon breakfast bun and a fig tartine.1
