Vinohrady takes its name from vineyards planted here in the 14th century, and from 1867 to 1968 it was officially Královské Vinohrady (Royal Vineyards).1 Today it is a district of apartment blocks split between Prague 2, 3 and 10, home to about 48,800 people in 2021.1 Vinohradská, its main east–west street, carries metro line A and passes Czech Radio’s headquarters and the Vinohrady Water Tower.1
Its cafés are neighborhood rooms more than sights, in a network Seznam Zprávy calls dense, from 1920s-style cake shops to 1960s retro.2 They cluster on Vinohradská, Francouzská and Korunní and around the two squares, náměstí Míru and náměstí Jiřího z Poděbrad. About half open by 08:00 on weekdays.
Local tip: Cafefin on náměstí Jiřího z Poděbrad takes no reservations and is usually full, so arrive close to its 09:00 opening.2

Náměstí Míru (Peace Square) holds the Vinohrady Theatre and the Gothic Revival Church of St. Ludmila; its metro station on line A is the deepest in Prague, at about 52 meters.13 Vanille, on the square, opens at 07:00 on weekdays.
Náměstí Jiřího z Poděbrad, also on line A, is built around Jože Plečnik’s 1932 Church of the Most Sacred Heart of Our Lord.13 Havlíčkovy sady, Prague’s second-largest park, keeps vineyards first planted under Charles IV; its Pavilon Grébovka serves daily 10:00–22:00.1
Cafefin, at No. 4, belongs to Mazelab Coffee and serves Vietnamese coffee with condensed milk, matcha and ube lattes, and Vietnamese breakfasts. It is usually crowded and takes no reservations.2 Le Caveau at No. 9 is French: breakfast, baguettes from the bakery next door, French wine and round outdoor tables facing the church.2
Espressocono, at No. 14, pours specialty espresso daily from 10:00 to 18:00, and mamacoffee has a café at No. 12.
La Bohème Café at Sázavská 32 is the showroom of one of the first Czech specialty roasteries, with several brewing methods, coffee cocktails and violins hanging from the ceiling.2 Pražírna, a basement café at Lublaňská 50, roasts on a machine guests can watch and opens a courtyard garden in summer.2 Dos Mundos Coffee Roastery has a café at Sázavská 24.2 The Miners pours at Slavíkova 5, daily 07:00–20:00.
Šlágr at Francouzská 72 plays hits of the 1920s and 1930s and sells Czech pastries such as punčák (rum-soaked pink cake), větrník (caramel cream puff) and indiánek (chocolate-coated sponge).2 Spižírna 1902 at Korunní 86 is known for kynuté buchty (yeast buns) and koláče.2 Zanzibar, at Americká 15, has been a family business since 1995, and Kaaba at Mánesova 20 is fitted out in colorful 1960s retro.2
Czech Inn Kafe, at Francouzská 76, is open 24 hours. Blatouch on Americká serves until 01:00 on Fridays and midnight on most other nights, and Kafárna Na kus řeči in sady Bratří Čapků stays open until 01:00. Kaaba closes at midnight on weekdays, and Zanzibar on Fridays and Saturdays.
For an early coffee, Arte Bianca on Bělehradská and Caffe Vergnano on Vinohradská open at 07:00 on weekdays, and Miners Churchill on Italská at 07:00 too.
