Výběrová káva, literally “selected coffee”, is the Czech term for specialty coffee, and the city’s roasters put it on their own pages: Doubleshot has roasted výběrová káva in Prague since 2010.1 The older default is turek, ground coffee scalded with boiling water in the cup and left until the grounds settle.2 It shares only its name with coffee made in Turkey, and most Czech cafés and restaurants still serve it.2
The specialty scene is young. In January 2020 the food-tour company Taste of Prague wrote that eight or nine years earlier the city had fewer than ten specialty coffee shops, and that nearly ten new ones opened in 2019 alone.3 It also noted that Prague has virtually no takeaway culture and that coffee in a to-go cup was still a fairly recent habit.3
Local tip: For a weekday start before 08:00, Borzoi on Zelená in Dejvice and LOKA Masaryčka on Na Florenci both open at 07:30.

What a cup costs in 2026
In October 2026 a regular cappuccino in Prague averaged about 79 Kč, with reported prices ranging from 50 to 90 Kč.7 In 2020 Taste of Prague put specialty espresso and batch filter at about €2, and cappuccinos, flat whites and hand brews at about €3.3 The same guide called Doubleshot reliable as one of the oldest specialty roasters, with beans that are fairly inexpensive and sold in larger bags.3

Specialty bars keep daytime hours. Most close by 18:00, and weekends are shorter still: LINK Espresso Bar on Bořivojova in Žižkov closes at 12:00 on Saturdays and Sundays, and LOKA Masaryčka on Na Florenci opens only at 10:00.
Bring a cup if you want coffee to go at EMA. Its bars stopped using paper cups on 1 April 2024 and, two years on, say they don’t expect to return to disposables.8
