In Athens the line between café and bar is thin. Time Out describes Village, on Kypseli’s Platia Agiou Georgiou, as a café by day and a bar in the evening, and Warehouse on Valtetsiou turns from flat whites and cold brew into a wine bar after dark.12
Kafeneía work the same way: Η ωραία Ελλάς moves from morning coffee to wine, beer and tsipouro in the evening, and Ζίτσα in Omonia follows its morning coffee with drinks and meze.3 Ampelokipoi has the most cafés open late, ahead of Pangrati and Kypseli.
Local tip: On a Friday or Saturday, you can stay for one more coffee and still take the metro home: trains on Lines 2 and 3 leave Syntagma at 02:00.5
Where these cafés are: Ampelokipoi (14), Kypseli (7), Pangrati (6), Koukaki & Makrygianni (6), Vyronas & Kaisariani (5), Syntagma & Plaka (5), Kerameikos & Gazi (4), Monastiraki & Psyrri (4), Neos Kosmos (4), Thiseio & Petralona (4), Exarchia (4), Ilisia & Zografou (3), Kolonaki (2), Kallithea (2), Metaxourgeio & Omonia (1).
