Um Uthaina (أم أذينة) is a district of the Zahran area between Mecca Street to the north and Zahran Street to the south, and it is counted among the most expensive neighborhoods in Amman.1 Its name is traced to a plant that grew thickly here, with large leaves shaped like an ear; local accounts suggest elephant ear.1 Many of its side streets are named after Arab cities, from Ha'il and Jizan to Kirkuk and Taiz.1

Rabieh (الرابية), across Mecca Street, takes its name from its height, about 1,015 m above sea level, and is officially part of Tla' al-Ali East.2 It became a well-off area in the early 1990s, when thousands of Jordanians returning from Kuwait and the Gulf during the first Gulf War built villas and stone houses here, and it is known for its youth cafés.2

Local tip: Kabul Street is the easiest place here to go from café to café on foot, and Barista at No. 16 serves until 00:00 every day.
