More than half of Auckland's cafés with Wi-Fi are in the CBD, many within a few blocks of the two big city campuses. The University of Auckland, New Zealand's largest, opened in 1883 as Auckland University College and had a headcount of 49,901 students in 2025; its City Campus covers 16 hectares of the central city.1 AUT's largest City Campus site is on Wellesley Street East.2
Outside the centre, Newmarket and Eden Terrace have two each, and the two that stay open into the night are on Mount Eden Road and in Morningside. Most are daytime cafés, so a long work session is easier to plan before mid-afternoon.
Local tip: Coco Lane on High Street opens 10:00–18:00 every day, which covers the CBD's quieter afternoon hours; for an evening session, café Mont on Mount Eden Road serves until 22:30.
Where these cafés are: City Centre (10), Newmarket & Grafton (2), Eden Terrace & Newton (2), Mount Eden (1), Kingsland & Morningside (1), Epsom & Remuera (1), Parnell (1), Ponsonby & Freemans Bay (1).
